The pangolin is native to Islamabad and is the most trafficked animal in the world

Our Story

Second Chance Wildlife (SCW) was created in September 2023 by a group of individuals committed to the rescue and care of injured, trafficked and poached wild animals in the Islamabad Capital Territory. SCW intends to actively prevent discourage illegal wildlife trade by conducting rescue operations; nursing rescued or injured wild animals back to health; resettling them in their forever homes; and educating the public on the crime’s economic and environmental impact.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment, the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) announced on Tuesday 10 October 2023 that it had entered into an understanding with SCW for the short-term management and operation of the Margala Rescue Center, currently located in the Old Zoo in Islamabad. Their newly formed Rescue and Rehabilitation Committee will provide oversight and coordination with SCW.

The arrangement will allow IWMB to focus on its other preservation objectives for the Margalla Hills National Park, including the establishment of a long-term Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Islamabad. SCW, through independent fund raising, will upgrade and secure the existing facilities, feed and heal the rescued animals, and organize the staff and partners necessary for regular and ongoing operations.

Our Goals

  1.  Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome: Remove wildlife from harmful situations, bring them into a temporary shelter to heal, and then release them to their forever home.

  2. Partnership: Work with local communities, schools, governments, non-governmental organizations, and businesses to stop wildlife endangerment and trafficking before it begins, primarily through educational programming and consultative services.
  3. Advocacy: Actively oppose the exploitation of wild animals in captivity and campaign to protect their homes in the wild. Act as the voices for these animals by speaking out against illegal wildlife trade and informing the public about the cost of our looming biodiversity crisis and habitat loss.

  4. End Goal: Be a temporary solution for wildlife rescue until the IWMB can build its permanent Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education center, at which time all activities of SCW in Islamabad will be transferred over to the new facility.
